Article from The Chicago TribuneTHE IMPULSE EXPLOSION...THE ONLY PLACE TO BE by Tiffany DawnCHICAGO, IL, (ces)- Of all the bands on today's music scene, Impulse would be my candidate for stardom. Their performances are scorching, their physical appeal undeniable. Superlatives seem weak when used to describe the astonishing attributes of this incredible band. Catchy material, explosive musicianship along with forceful multi-vocals keep their audience stimulated and begging for more throughout each performance. This dazzling cavalcade of entertainment sparkles with talent, showmanship and professionalism complemented by the use of eye-popping theatrical effects including lasers, fire, fog, mirrors, explosions and a huge sign displaying the bands name in lights. Their ability to take good music and make it better manages to leave other bands sounding pretty watery at best. A little more explosive than your average act of God their powerful, roaring individualistic sound makes one feel as though he is being blasted from the deck of a torpedoed ship. Impulse is a fascinating mixture of personalities who are crazy enough to dedicate their sanity, time and talents to make rock what it's all about. Unbelievably alluring and ecstatically flashy on the drums, Clark Evans may very well be the most phenomenal drummer of the next decade. Unmatched in talent and energy his display of the art of drumming comes on like a thundering avalanche totally capable of becoming a tour de force of rock. He gives a volcanic performance which drives the crown into an instant frenzy with his almost self-destructive flaming inferno an drums which has to be the hottest fire show this side of hell. It is a daring, gut-grabbing experience laced with sinister chill which will shake you, tantalize you and make your blood throb to the excitement. Clark's appeal isn't limited to his musical capabilities as his sweetly seductive manner, liquid eyes, innocent warm smile and golden hair which is brighter than the California sun makes him the man who represents the dreams of every woman. Danny Meek on bass is a true, professional maintaining a first rate performance throughout each show which is forceful, direct and meets perfection. The artistic and technical talents of this accomplished bassist has a hypnotic magic all its own, sure to excite any audience. Guitarist Scott Petry keeps the rhythm moving with electrifying expertise. His timing and innovation is so precise and his imagination so progressive that each song is made into a wild, exciting experience all its own, creating a high calibre performance with wide appeal. Though young in years, Butch Durlin's lead guitar work outshines most of rock's noted guitarists. He has dynamic energy, and gives a solid performance which is an immediate hit with any audience. Butch's guitar playing illuminates the stage with speed, force and magnetism. Impulse is consistently developing new ideas and you just never know what to expect next from the band or any of its extraordinary members. Their never ceasing voltage is the living solution to today's energy crisis. Impulse has recently recorded two of their most requested original compositions; "Impulse" and "Baby I Need Your Love" which features the members of the band in a thoroughly unique way. Though not officially released yet, the record is getting significant interest and it would be a plus for any recording firm to have impulse on their label. Their originals far surpass the quality of any of today's top bands and they have the kind of sensual appearance sure to captivate and demoralize the young female record buyers, an important part of the rock audience. The band has captured the envy, awe and imagination of all their competitors. While other bands may strive for the quality of sound and performance so characteristic of Impulse, somehow, they just can't pull it off. Impulse is working hard to achieve perfection in something which seems to have met the highest possible standards in the first place. In watching or listening to the band you'll know they're not just better, they're the best. They ignite every room with a blaze of victory and will glow brightly for quite sometime. The most mesmerizing ritual takes place as powerful performances fill the air, music takes control of the senses and the crowd goes wild with excitement. At a time when many local bands are faltering, Impulse offers the best of both worlds; sight and sound. They are one of the few bands saving the appeal and magnetism to attract and hold a following in any room they play. |
